Q: How do I find a mentor?

Great question! I have a ton of mentors because I’ve identified different ones to turn to based on the advice I need—whether it’s about work-life balance or my accounting specialty. The best way to find mentors is through being involved and active at work. For example, you could get involved in your organization’s employee resource groups (ERGs). Typically, it doesn’t happen like “Hey, can you be my mentor?” — it’s an organic process where you meet people, whether it be those you’re working with and you’re like “okay, I think this person cares about me and wants to invest in my career” and you pick up on that. Then, you naturally start reaching out to them, setting up calendar invites to stay connected, and then just naturally ask them questions and then that relationship develops over time.
